Community Upliftment Through Problem Building Restoration

n Cape Town, the Law Enforcement’s Problem Building Unit focuses on properties that have fallen into neglect and become hotbeds for illegal activities. In many poorer communities, these derelict buildings become havens for drug use, crime, and vagrancy — eroding safety and hope for the people living nearby.

Three years ago, we set out to change that. Our initiative purchases these neglected properties, clears them of illegal occupants, and transforms them into safe, welcoming homes for families in need. Each restored home not only provides shelter but also brings renewed life and dignity to the surrounding neighborhood.

By tackling one vandalized house at a time, we’re reducing crime, restoring community pride, and creating local employment opportunities. Our work empowers residents, strengthens the fabric of the community, and gives people a reason to believe in a better future for their streets.

This is more than just property restoration — it’s about reclaiming our neighborhoods, building hope, and proving that positive change is possible.
